Research Fellowship with a focus on Black maternal health

Black Girl Research Institute (BGRI) aims to equip aspiring and current researchers and community organizers with the tools needed to conduct ethical research regarding Black and Brown girls and women. The institute includes a residency during which fellows participate in research training, workshops, and conduct field work. 2023 Fellowship focused on maternal health and included a two week residency in Jackson, MS. This fellowship was lead by Dr. Louwanda Evans of Millsaps' Sociology and Anthropology department in collaboration with Lighthouse Black Girls Projects.

During this process, fellows collected data with trial interviews with audio recordings that would later be transcribed and analyzed in order ro co-construct a community intervention plan to minimize identified maternal health disparities in Mississippi.
